BuCor to hire 1,000 corrections officers in 2022

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) is set to recruit 1,000 corrections officers for 2022 for deployment in its seven prison facilities in the country.

“Meron po tayo na-approbahan na quota for 1,000 new Corrections Officer 1 na ipi-fill natin sa year 2022 (A quota for the recruitment of 1,000 new Corrections Officer 1 for 2022 has been approved),” BuCor Human Resources Division (HRD) Chief Theodore P. Perez said during an online interview posted in the bureau’s Facebook page.

“Although nag-request po kami na mas mataas po sana ang quota kaya lang ang na-aprubahan lang po sa ngayon ay 1,000 pa lamang (Although we sought more recruits, only 1,000 was approved),” he added.

Perez said that BuCor had already hired a total of 850 persons this year for the position of Corrections Officer 1. In 2020, BuCor hired about 800 corrections officers, he added.

“Meron pa po tayo natitira na 150 na ire-recruit natin bago matapos ang taon (We will recruit 150 more persons for the position before the year ends),” he said.

He pointed out that BuCor need more personnel for an effective, efficient, and secured operations of it seven prison facilities.

“Kailangan natin maabot ang ideal ratio po natin sa security which is 1 is to 7 at sa technical officers po natin which is 1 to 24 (We need to reach the ideal ration which is 1 is to 7 for security and 1 is to 24 for technical officers),” he explained.

Applicant must be Filipino citizen between 21 to 40 years old, of good moral character, and college graduate with appropriate civil service eligibility.

Perez also said that an applicant must not be dishonorably discharged and must not be convicted by final judgment for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude.
