National artist BenCab is a 'kakampink'

National Artist Benedicto Cabrera, famously known as “BenCab”, is the latest prominent personality to add his name to the growing list of Vice President Leni Robredo’s supporters in her upcoming 2022 presidential run.

On Sunday, Nov. 21, BenCab posted a photo of himself infront of a pine tree adorned with small pink “parols” or lanterns--signifying that he is a certified kakampink.

“It’s a beautiful morning! Happy Sunday to all!” the national artist wrote on Facebook with a pink heart and flower emoticons.

"Kakampink" is the combination of the words kakampi (ally) and pink, the Vice President’s campaign color.

Cabrera's post has already garnered 8,000 likes and hearts and has been shared more than 1,400 times as of this posting.

Netizens have appreciated the artist’s post and thanked him for supporting Robredo. Some of them also expressed their plan to visit the BenCab Museum, which they now call as KakamPINK.

“Yes! We’ll definitely visit when we go to Baguio in December,” Christia Garcia Serrano said in her comment.

Ever since opposition leader Robredo announced her presidential run last Oct. 7, she has received a deluge of support from artists, celebrities, and volunteers. They've made it a point to highlight the color pink on their social media posts.

Another National Artist, Rio Alma also penned a poem for Robredo, calling her one of the “three stars on his flag". The other stars are Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winner journalist Maria Ressa.

The poem, titled “May Tatlong Bituin and Aking Watawat (My Flag Has Three Stars),” is an ode to the Filipino women who brought “hope, pride, and light” that the country needs.

A video version featuring actress Iza Calzado, who read the verses out loud to a montage of the three women was also posted on his Facebook account.

Earlier, more than a hundred of the Philippines’ acclaimed visual artists, led by BenCab, expressed their opposition to the return of the Marcoses and the Dutertes in Malacañang.

In a joint statement, 112 recipients of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP) Thirteen Artists Awards over the last five decades described the tandem of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as “alarming and enraging".

Aside from BenCab, among those who signed the statement include Danny Dalena, Jose Tence Ruiz, Charlie Co, Egai Fernandez, Julie Lluch, Elmer Borlongan, Jose Santos III, Geraldine Javier, Nona Garcia and Poklong Anading.
