Converge ICT experiences a two-hour outage

At around 12:10 PM today, Saturday 20 November 2021, network monitoring app Fing reported that Converge ICT is down. A quick check on our Converge ICT connection at home verified the tweet — it was indeed down.

The free Fing app lets users identify connected devices, help troubleshoot network and device issues, detect/report network intruders, and run WiFi and internet speed tests anywhere. It can automatically detect if your ISP is currently down based on crowd-sourced information. The app is available as a free download for mobile devices running Android and iOS and for computers on Windows and macOS via https://get.fing.com/.

The social media account of the ISP issued a Service Advisory at around 1:26 PM, acknowledging that they have been experiencing connectivity issues since 12:12 PM.

More than an hour later, at around 2:48 PM, the ISP issued a media advisory saying that their services have been fully restored and that the downtime was attributed to an issue with one of their major routers. A company representative further added that subscribers terminating with the affected router were the only ones affected by the outage.

Many irate subscribers of the ISP turned to social media to air their frustration and angst as they rely on Converge ICT for their work-from-home and homeschooling needs. Some were even asking the ISP to compensate them through rebates, etc.

Based on my computation, the ISP was down for just 2 hours and 28 minutes (from 12:12 PM to 2:40 PM PHT). It may be recalled that Converge ICT suffered from a major outage a year ago (17 November 2021), citing troubles they encountered in their Data Center.
