BOC inaugurates new X-ray machine to boost fight vs smuggling


The Bureau of Customs has inaugurated a second X-ray machine that as part of the effort to modernize the campaign against smuggling.

The machine was procured from the United States and is worth P15 million through the People’s Air Cargo (PAIRCARGO).

BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said the scanner features a six-color imaging which enables it to scan various composition of materials. It has also a deep penetration capability to ensure that concealment cannot be done during non-intrusive examination of parcels and boxes.

The machine was inaugurated on Thursday, Nov. 18, and was attended by representatives from the BOC Internal Administration Group (IAG), and officials of the BOC Port of NAIA and the PAIRCARGO.

The modernization has been instrumental in the campaign against smuggling.
