Singson announced that the factory that he established with Korean partners can produce 500 electric jeepneys a month at P1.2 million per unit for transport cooperative groups.
He pledged the e-jeepney to transport cooperatives when he announced his plan to run senator.
Singson later on withdrew for health reasons but he pursued his promise for the benefit of jeepney drivers and operators in the country.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Ramon Reyes, representing Secretary Vince Dizon, said that the department supports Singson's initiative for the transport industry.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the advancement of the e-jeepney program was signed between Singson, DOTr, the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
A contract was also signed with a group of jeepney operators who availed of the e-jeepneys.
Singson said the e-jeepneys are powered by Korean innovation and they are the first electric automobile manufacturer in the Philippines.
These e-jeepneys lead the way in eco-friendly transportation, said Singson.
