Britney's lawyer to pursue those behind conservatorship

Britney Spears is finally free, but an accounting is still due.

Just as the #FreeBritney movement and the pop artist herself celebrated the announcement that her conservatorship has finally been ordered dissolved by the courts, her lawyer is already planning to go after those behind the conservatorship.

Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor and Britney’s lawyer, served Jamie Spears and the management firm Tri Star with subpoenas back in October 1 that “is seeking documents and depositions to determine how much money they received from the pop star’s estate over the last 14 years,” Rolling Stone reported.

Rosengart said that pursuing Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, who held the conservatorship for 14 years, is “ultimately up to my client, Britney.”

The lawyer mentioned that Jamie “refuse to appear for two depositions,” adding “It’s interesting that he has refused to cooperate because his lawyer, in his lawyer’s filing, claimed that Mr. Spears would profusely cooperate. I can say this: They have not responded to one document request. They have not responded to one interrogatory. And they have refused thus far to appear for deposition under oath.”

As for Tri Star Management, Rosengart said that Britney’s former management “wouldn’t voluntarily cooperate with Britney Spears,” and that “the most notable question that we’ve asked on behalf of Britney, of Tri Star, is the simple question: How much money did you take from the estate? How much money did you receive from the estate?..(Tri Star) has refused to answer that question.”

A law expert said to Rolling Stone that what Britney’s lawyer is looking for is “what we call breach of fiduciary duty – in other words, if they failed to act in Britney Spears’ best interests.”

Jamie Spears and Tri Star have both pointed out to the legal filings that the court has already approved with regard to the financial dealings with Spears’ estate and have denied any wrongdoing.
