David Lee Roth to retire, vows to go out with a bang

“I’m throwing in the shoes,” said the former Van Halen lead singer.

David Lee Roth, who sang on the popular Van Halen hits “Jump” “Ain’t Talkin' Bout Love,” “Hot For Teacher,” and “Runnin’ With The Devil,” announced his plans to retire over the weekend.

“I’m retiring. I am encouraged and compelled to really come to grips with how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter,” the singer said.

As reported by Rolling Stone, Roth reflected on “throwing in the shoes” talking about Eddie Van Halen, who died last year, Oct. 6.

“I thought I might have been first, frankly. I might have thought the Marlboro Man would’ve got me. Hey Ed, objects in the rear-view mirror are probably me. And my doctors, handlers, compelled me to really address that every time I go on stage, I endanger that future.”

The singer is retiring in style though with a set of shows starting New Year’s Eve 2022.

These are my last five shows,” Roth said of the string of dates at the House Of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Roth’s last show will be on Jan. 8.

Roth, who turns 67 this October said, “I’ve given you all I’ve got to give. It’s been amazing, great run, no regrets, nothing to say about anybody. I’ll miss you all. Stay frosty.”
