Marvel’s Kevin Feige underscores redefining importance of ‘Eternals’ on MCU

In the weeks leading up to the premiere of MCU’s “Eternals”, Marvel Entertainment’s Kevin Feige underscored the importance of the latest film to the whole of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“The impact Eternals will have on the MCU will be nothing less than redefining the cinematic universe entirely,” said Feige, adding that the upcoming film “explores the very creation of the Marvel universe itself.”

Of the cosmic ramifications the new film has on the MCU, Feige is of course referring to the main characters on said film. The Eternals are a race of immortals that have observed the events on Earth since the dawning of mankind. Imbued with powers that are on the scale of the most powerful superhero in the Marvel universe or even more, The Eternals’ immediate circle includes cosmic beings such as the Celestials and Deviants. These immortals, though powerful, are held by their own code to not interfere with the affairs of humankind. Thus the mention of it in the final trailer when Ajak (played by Salma Hayek) after seeking out Ikaris (Richard Madden) explained that when “Thanos erased half the population of the universe, the people of this planet brought everyone back with a snap of a finger. The sudden return of the population (of the whole universe) provided the necessary energy for the emergence to begin.”

Hence the main plot of the “Eternals” film, which stems from the events of “Avengers Endgame” that would drive these immortals out of their default bystander mode and into active participants and movers in the MCU. As to the extent of how the Eternals will be woven into the fabric of MCU's vaunted Phase 4 remains to be seen when the movie is released.

Marvel Studios “Eternals” is the first major Hollywood movie by Academy Award winning director Chloé Zhao. The film boasts of a diverse cast that includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington, Bryan Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee and Angelina Jolie. “Eternals” is set to premiere at the Rome Film Festival on October 24 and will be in world theaters starting November 5th.
