Nunuk Nuraini, the woman behind Mi goreng instant noodles, passes away at 59

Nunuk Nuraini, creator of cult favorite Mi goreng instant noodles, passed away Jan. 27, 2021, at the age of 59. 

The news of her death was confirmed by Nurlita Novi Arlaida, Indofood's head of public relations, in a statement to Kompas, Indonesia's local newspaper. According to reports, Nunuk spent three dacades working for the company as flavor development manager.

Inspired by the Indonesian dish mie goreng, Mi goreng is among the instant noodle variants of the Indofood's Indomie product. The instant noodles became available in different countries in the '80s. It garnered many fans, including Filipinos, thanks to its truly Asian flavors carried by sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, and seasoning oil with fried onion flakes.

To commemorate her legacy, tributes from instant noodle lovers from all over the world pour in on Twitter.
