SMC's Alfrancis Chua to meet Greg Slaughter next week

San Miguel Corporation Sports Director Alfrancis Chua said he is meeting Barangay Ginebra San Miguel center Greg Slaughter in hopes to discuss the latter’s contract situation with the Kings after missing the team’s campaign in the previous season.

Chua said Saturday he is hoping to settle things with the 7-foot Slaughter, who missed the Philippine Cup after opting to explore things with regards to his career as he trained in the US and signed with international agency BeoBasket.

“Maguusap kami next week. Kailangan usap. Ang gulo na nga (because of COVID-19 pandemic) mag-aaway pa ba,” said Chua as he appeared on The Chasedown on One PH over Cignal TV. “Pakinggan ang rason nila kung kayang intidihin, intindihin natin.”

Originally picked No. 1 overall by Ginebra during the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft, Slaughter missed the team’s previous campaign after he didn’t sign with the team, which owns his rights.

The 32-year-old Slaughter apologized to the team and the management - especially to Chua - for taking a year-long break during the COVID-19 pandemic - and expressed his desire to play with the team.

“Nagsabi siya, nag sosorry siya sa management, teammates niya... Hindi naman bata yan matanda na yan, respetuhin na lang. Wala namang bad blood yan, ilang months din nawala, nag asawa na, napag isip-isip niya na siguro,” said Chua. “Gustong maglaro na rin at bumalik sa Ginebra.”
