A total of 682 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and 67 personnel at the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Abuyog, Southern Leyte were vaccinated against COVID-19 last Sept. 21.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, Sept. 26, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said the vaccinations were done by LRP’s Health Services Division led by CSInsp. Dennis Antonio Dacayanan, and representatives of the Department of Health Regional Office VIII and the Abuyog Municipal Health Office.
“CTSInsp. Francisco G. Salvador Jr., LRP acting superintendent, through the guidance of BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag, aims to have its personnel and prison population fully vaccinated in support to the government’s efforts to stop the pandemic,” BuCor said.
In its reports last Aug. 31, BuCor said 3,384 PDLs from its prison facilities have received vaccinations against COVID-19.
Those vaccinated included 3,100 PDLs at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City; 214 at the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Zamboanga; and 60 at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF).
Since vaccinations in BuCor’s prison facilities depend on the local government units (LGUs) where they are located, Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra had ordered prisons officials to coordinate closely with LGUs or strive to get vaccines from other sources.
