700 more BuCor prisoners vaccinated

Bureau of Corrections

Seven hundred more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-10) as of last Aug. 31 in four of the seven prison facilities managed by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

This means that the number of vaccinated PDLs rose to 3,384 from the 2,684 reported last Aug. 27. There are more than 48,000 PDLs in BuCor’s seven prison farms in the country.

Based on BuCor’s data released on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 10 of those vaccinated are at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City; 3,100 at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Muntinlupa City; 214 at the San Ramon Penal and Prison Farm (SRPPF); and 60 at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF).

BuCor Vaccination Data

BuCor said that the 10 vaccinated PDLs at the NBP had been inoculated even before their transfer to the prison facility.

A total of 214 PDLs at the SRPPF and 198 at CIW has been fully vaccinated.

Also based on the data, no PDL has been vaccinated at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Mindoro, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan, and at the Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Southern Leyte.

At the same time, the data showed that 1,094 personnel in seven prison facilities have been vaccinated.

Vaccinated personnel are those at the NBP with 752; CIW, 157; SRPPF, 18; DPPF, 38; SPPF, 85; IPPF, 28; and LRP, 16.

Last Aug. 31, the Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that 35 BuCor personnel and two PDLs were active COVID-19 cases as of last Aug. 27.

The DOJ data showed that of the active cases involving prisons personnel, there were 22 at NBP, eight at CIW, and five at SPPF. Two infected PDLs were reported at CIW.

The latest data issued by the BuCor did not state the status of the active COVID-19 cases.

Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra had said that BuCor and BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) have relied on local government units (LGUs) for the supply of vaccines.

But he stressed that “if the LGUs concerned cannot provide enough for them, then the BuCor and the BJMP should seek their own independent sources.”
