Five persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) last Sept. 5.
One of those released had been granted parole, one had been acquitted of his charges, and three had served their jail terms on account of their good conduct time allowance (GCTA), the DPPF said in a statement.
Their release was based on a memorandum issued by Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Q. Bantag.
“The Davao Prison and Penal Farm is grateful to BuCor Director General Bantag for the expeditious release system of qualified PDLs,” it said.
“These releases are proof that BuCor is serious in its mission of reforming persons deprived of liberty and ensuring the public that these released PDL are no longer harmful to the society,” it also said.
It said the PDLs released were required to undergo coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test that yielded negative results.
“They were given gratuity and transportation allowance in going back to their respective hometown,” it added.
