Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have arrested a woman for alleged sex trafficking in Cotabato City.
With the arrest of Bai Sofia S. Tuas, NBI Officer-in-Charge Director Eric B. Distor said nine women were rescued by agents of the NBI’s Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (NBI-BARMM).
After her arrest last Aug. 18, Distor said Tuas was charged before the Cotabato City Prosecutor’s Office with violations of Republic Act No. 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
In a press statement, the NBI said Tuas was arrested inside a hotel room in Cotabato City after receiving marked money from NBI agents as fee for the rescued women’s sex services.
It said the operation was conducted after receiving reports of human trafficking activities, particularly for sex trade, in Cotabato City.
