The country’s new telecommunications player has begun erecting cell sites within the New Bilibid Prison’s (NBP) reservation in Muntinlupa City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

In a statement, BuCor said that DITO Telecommunity Corporation’s cell sites at the NBP is part of the firm’s commitment to have nationwide coverage after being granted a franchise under Republic Act No. 8627.

“DITO is mandated by RA 8627 to construct, establish, install, maintain and operate wire and/or wireless telecommunications systems in the Philippines, by improving the way Filipino experience connectivity with secure, fast and high value 4G and 5G technologies,” it said.

It said one of the cell sites will be located near the MCX toll gate, while, the other one is near the National Housing Authority (NHA).

“DITO will also expand their operations to all six other BuCor Operating Prison and Penal Farms (OPPFs),” it added.

The setting up of the cell sites was made possible through the memorandum of agreement signed by BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag and DITO Telecommunity Corporation chief technology officer, retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Maj. Gen. Rodolfo G. Santiago.
