Ten more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City last Aug. 12.
Earlier last week, seven PDLs were freed from CIW in line with the Bureau of Corrections' (BuCor) program to decongest jails by immediately releasing qualified prisoners from its jail facilities nationwide.
“The Correctional Institution for Women has been releasing PDLs almost every week,” CIW said in a statement.
“CTSSupt. Virginia S. Mangawit signed their Certificates of Discharge after BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag approved the memorandum for release,” it said.
Those released last Aug. 12 included eight women who had been acquitted of their criminal charges and two who had qualified under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA), it added.
CIW said that those released were subjected to rapid antigen testing for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and were given gratuities and certificates of recommendation for future job opportunities.
