The New World of ECQ food and cake picks

Jasmine at New World Makati has always been one of my favorite go-to’s when it comes to Chinese cuisine. Its high quality and constantly evolving menu is a dependable choice for my sons and I when thinking of where to head to for Sunday lunch. With the ECQ, there were periods of time when the restaurant would completely shut down. Fortunately for us, the hotel decided that this ECQ would have them offering something special, until the end of August 2021, for the Jasmine patrons pining away for their favorite dishes.

To up the ante, New World Makati’s The Shop, their haven for decadent and luscious whole cakes, also has a special offer this August 2021. It’s what every home celebration would appreciate, and delightfully take advantage of. So read on!

Crispy Pork Belly

At Jasmine, self pick-up orders enjoy 15 percent off; and for those who prefer their orders be delivered, the restaurant is available on mobile food apps Grab, FoodPanda, and Pickaroo. So if you haven’t tried their Crispy Pork Belly or Har Kao shrimp and bamboo shoot dumplings, now is the time to order these perennial favorites of mine. I’d also recommend their Seafood Taro Puff, the Pan-Fried Radish Cake, and their rice and noodle dishes.

For the main courses, try their Deep Fried Spare Ribs with Crispy Garlic, the Wok-fried Chicken Kung Pao with cashews, and I love the Deep Fried Sole Fillet with Salted Egg Yolk. A sweet ending to their main dishes would be the Mango Cream Sago, or the Deep Fried Sesame Balls with Lotus Paste filling.

Their Dim Sum Eat-All-You-Can recently introduced six new items, but these are only available if you opt for self pick-up. These are the Shrimp with Corn and Parsley Dumpling, the Minced Chicken with Truffle Mushroom Dumpling, the Shrimp with Pacific Clam Dumpling (my tip!), the Curry Bun with chicken, mushrooms, carrots and corn, the Youtiao Shrimp Mousse with Wasabi Sauce (my second pick of the new ones), and the Seafood Cheese Net Spring Roll.

Chocolate Truffle Crunch

At The Shop, all the whole cakes are being made available for P1,000 until the end of August 2021. Orders are for self pick-up, and must be made 48 hours in advance. Available are the Chocolate Truffle Crunch, creamy dark chocolate cake with layers of moist sponge, with a hint of crunch, topped with a dark chocolate coating; the Red Velvet, sponge cake with cream cheese frosting, and a mirror glaze; the Almond Praline Crunch, made caramel hazelnut praline paste, and finished with Chantilly cream and Almond Flakes; and their distinctive Strawberry Shortcake, layers of butter sponge, topped with macarons, ganache frosting, and fresh berries.
