Toyo Eatery's latest offering is the comfort food you need during a rainy day—or not

A bilao of mami, anyone?

If the rainy days, or the new enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), is giving you the blues, here is something that will surely warm up your heart and your tummy. Noted restaurant Toyo Eatery launches a new bilao dish, and this time, it comes with a broth on the side.

Manok Mami ni Man

Announced through a social media post, the restaurant's latest offering is Manok Mami ni Man, its version of the rainy day staple meal mami. The dish "is an ode to one of our chefs, Man Manlapas, Pinoy comfort food," hence, the name of it.

Pinoys eating mami can be traced way back in the 1920s when Chinese immigrant Ma Mon Lok sold mi (noodles) in Binondo, Manila and raised funds to buy the building at the corner where he used to be a peddler. According to food historian Felice Prudente Sta. Maria, mami, a dish also considered as a pansit, in Hokkien means "meat with noodles."

Toyo Eatery's version remains true to the dish's heritage. A bilao order of their mami comes with "egg noodles that are made from scratch, poached chicken, greens and mushrooms, broth that's been prepared with all the love in the world, and a side of house made soy coconut and chili garlic for extra oomph!"

Earlier this year, Toyo Eatery was named among the top 50 restaurants in Asia by The World's 50 Best. Diners can find the restaurant at 2316 Chino Roces Ave. in Makati City.

Currently, Manok Mami ni Man and its other dishes are only available for delivery and takeaway due to the ECQ. A 10-inch bilao of mami costs P1,500 (good for two to three pax) while its 16-inch bilao is priced at P2,900 (good for five to six pax).
