NBP set to release 8 more inmates

The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City is set to release eight more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

In a statement, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) – which operates, manages, and supervises NBP and other prison facilities in the country – said the eight PDLs have been physically assessed by NBP’s medical officer.

“It is important to examine the physical condition of the PDLs to make sure they are healthy before going back to their families once they were released,” the bureau said.

As of last Aug. 5, the NBP has released for the month of Aug. 2021 a total of 32 PDLs who had either been paroled, had served their jail terms, had been acquitted of their criminal charges, or had qualified under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA).

The release of qualified PDLs has been expedited to decongest jails particularly during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, BuCor said.
