
The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City released last July 15 two more persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under the Bureau of Corrections’ (BuCor) jail decongestion program.
In a statement, BuCor said one of those released had been granted parole while the other one had served his prison term.
It said those released underwent rapid antigen tests on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and were given financial assistance for travel expenses.
“BuCor, under the leadership of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag and Acting Superintendent CCInsp. Reynold T. Pablo Jr. continuously implement its Decongestion Program amidst the pandemic,” it said.
Last June, BuCor released a total of 565 PDLs from its various prison facilities.
A total of 320 PDLs was released from NBP, 73 from the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City, 107 from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, two from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, 14 from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm, 31 from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm, and 14 from the Leyte Regional Prison.
