Cellular telephone jammers at NBP effective, reliable -- BuCor

Jamming devices continue to block signals of illegally-acquired mobile phones of inmates at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Wednesday, July 7.
Mobile telephones and similar gadgets have been banned and considered contrabands if caught in possession of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
BuCor had to install jammers to stop the use of smuggled mobile phones and other gadgets that are reportedly being used by inmates in their illegal activities despite behind bars.
In a statement, BuCor said it conducted tests on its jamming devices last July 6 to test their efficacy.
“The said tests validated that the jamming devices are working efficiently and effectively as these successfully blocked and disrupted the signal coming from the three cellular network providers,” it said.
It said that bureau personnel together with Exalt IT Services Inc. Conducted the tests “to validate the effectiveness of the signal jammers in blocking the existing technologies being provided by different cellular-phone networks that are 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE, and 5G.”
“The actual tests were conducted within different areas of the Maximum Security Compound and Security Housing Unit, Building 14 as the primary areas of concern,” it said.
It pointed out that its signal jammers at the NBP “not only block the unsolicited phone calls inside the jailhouse but also allow authorized calls only.”
The jammers are used “mainly in prison cells, military facilities, and courthouses,” it noted.
