Nothing says pleasure and delight more than chocolates. It's the ultimate culinary chameleon, jumping from savory pots to plated desserts. But many chocolate fanatics know that there is no better way to enjoy it than consuming it in its simplicity.

Lucky for us in the Philippines, we have an emerging cacao industry that brings to the table the most sumptuous chocolate products grown from our local soil. While they are good on their own, here's how you can take your chocolate eating journey to the next level, and that includes Japanese whisky.

Serving the ultimate Asian fusion experience is The Tasting Club with its upcoming event "The Flavors of Japanese Whisky and Filipino Artisan Chocolate." In partnership with LIT Manila and Malagos Chocolate, the one-of-a-kind, virtual tasting will take place on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Whisky and chocolate connoisseurs will be taken to a tasting journey led by Francis T. Hasegawa, Japanese whisky specialist of LIT Manila. Participants can expect to discover and appreciate the complexity and expressiveness of five different Japanese whiskies. They will also explore the main categories of Japanese whisky—blended, single grain, and single malt—and get to know the craft of world-class distilleries. Hasegawa will also demonstrate how to make a Highball like a professional bartender.

Rex Puentespina, chocolate maker of Malagos Chocolate, will give participants a glimpse of the craftsmanship that goes into his award-winning dark chocolate produced from tree to bar in Mindanao. Promising to be an immersive experience, the digital event aims to help people to better understand the production of artisan dark chocolates with some of the finest cocoa beans in the world.

According to The Tasting Club, each participant will receive five samples of Japanese whisky (50ml each) and a selection of four dark chocolates (20g each) on the day of the event to enjoy this exclusive virtual masterclass.

Some of the most iconic whisky distilleries in Japan will be featured during the tasting: Suntory Kakubin (blended), Mars IWAI Blue (blended), Nikka From The Barrel (blended), Chita (single grain) and Matsui Sakura (single malt). The Japanese whisky selection will be paired with different dark chocolates (dark chocolate 56 percent, 65 percent, 72 percent, and 85 percent).

"Knowing that Father’s Day is an important day for all fathers to spend quality time with their family, "The Flavors of Japanese Whisky and Filipino Artisan Chocolate" has been scheduled the weekend after Father’s Day," the Tasting Club says. "The selection of dark chocolates will definitely be a great occasion for fathers to share this tasting experience with their partner, and to appreciate together Japanese whisky."
