Perpetrator of 'fried towel instead of chicken may be charged' – Guevarra

Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra on Tuesday, June 9, said that the person who “fried a towel” instead of a piece of chicken at the branch of food chain Jollibee may be charged criminally.
“On the Jollibee incident, the perpetrator may be charged with violation of the relevant provisions of the Food Safety Act of 2013 and the Consumer Act of the Philippines,” Guevarra said.
Last June 2, Alique Perez posted on Facebook that she ordered fried chicken from the Jollibee Bonifacio-Stop Over branch but found that one of the pieces was a “fried towel.”
Jollibee had already issued an apology over the incident. “We are deeply concerned about this matter and have conducted thorough investigation on the incident,” it said.
“It is unfortunate that deviations from Jollibee’s standard food preparation procedures occurred on the part of certain personnel of the store,” it added.
Jollibee said it had its branch involved closed for three days “to thoroughly review its compliance with procedures and retrain its store team to ensure that this will not happen again.”
“We will also send out reminders to all stores to ensure the strict adherence to Jollibee’s food preparation systems,” it stressed.
“Jollibee has carefully developed and complied with food preparation systems to ensure that we deliver excellent quality products and customer satisfaction. We will continue to endeavor to deliver on the high standards we have set for ourselves and our franchisees,” it added.
