15 applicants to lone vacant justice post in SC – Guevarra

There are 15 aspirants to the Supreme Court’s (SC) associate justice post that was vacated last April 5 with the appointment of Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo.

But Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra, an ex-officio member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), did not identify the 15 aspirants.

Guevarra said that two of the 15 applicants “are not from the judiciary.”

“Names to be published after the first round of deliberations next week,” he said.

The JBC is the constitutional office that accepts, screens and nominates appointments to the judiciary.

Three days after Gesmundo’s appointment, the JBC started its search for applicants to the lone vacant post in the 15-member SC. The deadline was last Monday, May 10.

Five fo the applicants were given until May 31 to submit the JBC-requried documents.
