A medical sales representative has been arrested and charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for reportedly stealing over P400,000 from a lady physician by “forging stolen checks.”
NBI Officer-In-Charge Director Eric B. Distor on Monday, May 10, identified the arrested suspect as Eloisa F. Mendoza of Genace Pharma Distributor.
Distor said Mendoza was arrested last Thursday, May 6, in San Fernando City in Pampanga during an entrapment operation conducted by agents of the NBI’s Central Luzon Regional Office (NBI-CELRO).
After her arrest, Mendoza was presented for inquest before the San Fenando City Prosecutor’s Office for Illegal Possession and Use of False Treasury or Bank Notes and Other Instruments of Credit under Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) in relation to Falsification by Private Individual and Use of Falsified Documents under Paragraph 1 and 2 of Article 172 and Article 171 of the RPC, as amended.
NBI’s Public Information Chief Nicanor V. Suarez said the operation was conducted “based on the complaint of a female doctor.”
Suarez said the complainant told the NBI that she was asked by her bank if she had issued a check to Mendoza. Thereafter, the physician made further inquiries and found that Mendoza reportedly deposited 16 checks which totaled P414,417 without her knowledge.
Prior to the incident, the physician also told the NBI that she had noticed that one of her checkbooks was missing and she suspected that it was taken by Mendoza.
