The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Thursday, May 6, welcomed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Guillermo T. Eleazar as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“We trust that under his leadership in the next six months, significant improvements will be institutionalized to enable the PNP to better contribute to ‘JUSTICE BILIS’ (fast justice),” IBP President Domingo Egon Q. Cayosa said in a statement.

Cayosa described Eleazar’s interactions with the IBP as “very professional, decisive, receptive to innovations and new ideas, truly an officer and a gentleman.”

“Gen. Eleazar has been a performing proactive police officer and a key ally in and supporter of the IBP’s Lawyer Security and Justice Program,” he said.

“We look forward to more effective law enforcement and anti-criminality campaigns of the PNP in accord with the rule of law and with due regard for the constitutional rights of citizens,” he added.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo M. Ano had confirmed that Eleazar will be succeeding current PNP Chief Gen. Debold M. Sinas.

Sinas is set to retire this Saturday, May 8, after having served as PNP chief since November 10, 2020.

Both Eleazar and Sinas are batchmates at the Philippine Military Academy’s (PMA) ‘Hinirang Class’ of 1987.
