Eight more inmates at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte have recovered from tuberculosis.
“The DPPF management together with its partners – the Department of Health (DOH-RO XI) and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) -- are committed in ending Tuberculosis in jails and prisons by ensuring that PDLs (persons deprived of liberty) are well taken care of and that their health is given utmost priority,” DPPF said in a statement.
With the new recoveries, it said a total of 80 PDLS have been freed of their lung disease after treatment.
To celebrate their recoveries, DPPF said a graduation ceremony was held for the 80 inmates for having completed the TB Direct Observed Treatment Strategy (TB-DOTS).
“The activity is also aimed at encouraging those PDLs who are currently undergoing intensive and maintenance phase of TB Treatment to take on the challenge in completing the entire duration of the treatment,” it explained.
It said the TB-DOTS requires those with TB to undergo the treatment from a minimum of six months up to one year.
