Cambe, ex-chief of staff of former Sen. Revilla, dies of stroke at NBP
Lawyer Richard Cambe, who was convicted of plunder by the Sandiganbayan in 2018 and detained at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, died of stroke last Thursday, April 8.
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag said Cambe was rushed to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa where he died at about 6 p.m.
Chaclag said that members of Cambe’s family “have been informed and they requested that their privacy be respected.”
“So we can only confirm that he died of stroke. Initial investigation also shows no signs of foul play so far,” he said.
Cambe, former chief of staff of then Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., was detained at the NBP after his Sandiganbayan conviction in 2018, together with businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.
Cambe and Napoles were found guilty of plunder in connection with the misuse of the P224.5 million in Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Revilla. They were sentenced to a prison term ranging from 20 years and one day to 40 years or reclusion perpetua.
The court also ordered Napoles and Cambe to return P124 million to the government. They were also perpetually disqualified to hold public office.
Revilla was acquitted of plunder. The Sandiganbayan ruled that since the prosecution failed “to establish beyond reasonable doubt that accused Revilla received, directly or indirectly, the rebates, commission, and kickbacks from his PDAF, the Court cannot hold him liable for the crime of plunder.”
