The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has wrapped up its probe on the “mis-encounter” between operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during an illegal drugs operation last Feb. 24 in Quezon City.

“According to the NBI Chief (Officer-In-Charge Director Eric B. Distor) he will be submitting soon a report on that encounter between the PDEA and the PNP,” said Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra during the press briefing hosted by Malacanang on Monday, April 5.
President Duterte had tasked the NBI as the sole agency to investigate the “mis-encounter” that resulted in the deaths of two policemen, two PDEA agents, and an informant.
Both the PNP and PDEA claimed that their respective operatives were engaged in legitimate anti-illegal drugs operations.
That same night last Feb. 24, Guevarra directed the NBI to conduct a separate parallel investigation, after both the PNP and PDEA announced a joint probe.
The President’s directive ended the PNP-PDEA probe with the NBI as the sole agency to look into the “mis-encounter.”
