Jonathan Ivan Rivera’s love for the performing arts started with the power of magic. (oo literal na magic ha!)

“I've been a professional Magician since I was 12 years old. I was taught by my dad who was a Magician, too. It started with Cartoon Network Birthday Bash, they would do a raffle on TV and the winner would get a birthday party and from there they needed young entertainers. That's where my professional life as a Magician started. Then I performed for all most all the hotels in the Philippines , and different clients from the bday party of kids of celebrities to company events.” Jonathan recalls. (parang na-magic mo na puso ko bro!)

Magic became big part of his life. He was in school on weekdays, and in events on weekends. After graduating Valedictorian in High School and Cum Laude at the Centro Escolar University Manila with a degree in Mass Communications Major in Broadcasting, he decided to try theater acting. (gusto ko yang mga cum…laude!)

“I wanted to take my craft to the next level and dreamt of incorporating magic and theater. So the moment I graduated I never tried to apply for a job but instead I went straight to PETA for workshops, did my auditions and landed my first role as Major Tsuneoka (main antagonist) in Efren Yambot's "Bintao," directed by Tony Mabesa and Alexander Cortez. I have also worked with several actors and directors. Ms. Ana Valdes Lim is a mentor," Jonathan shares. (dalhin natin ang pagkakakilala natin sa next level bro!)

Jonathan is spreading his wings. He has penetrated showbiz via his very first BL series by director Jay Altarejos titled: “Memories of Forgetting” to be aired on heypogi.com. (I will never forget you my baby..este bro!)

“My role here is Mike Sy, an actor who allegedly had an affair with his director "Jim". I was ready for this material. Meditation and the teachings of my mentor taught me that we are artists and the instrument is the body and that the roles are a craft, an artwork and it is not who we are and so I was prepared the moment I accepted the project, mentally and emotionally. I've already made peace that it will call for nudity and M2M. Research included watching a film of Wong Kar Wai, and observation of friends and colleagues who were similar to the character's personality,” Jonathan explains. (ang deep! next time, sakin ka muna magpunta bro!)

The 23-year-old physical fitness enthusiast wants to take his showbiz career seriously even if projects will require him to be sexier, bolder. (ay naka-abang nako dyan!)” I can be as daring as the story needs to be if the script demands frontal nudity then frontal nudity it is. I was taught by my mentor that all the roles and experiences I will encounter in life and as an actor would lead to the honing and growth of my craft. So I really have no limits as long the story requires it.” (ay magproduce ako movie, frontal nudity ang title! Game!)

But Jonathan’s life is not all about showbiz. He regularly organizes feeding programs in different less fortunate communities. (parang lalo kitang minahal sa part nato bro!)

“My dad died in 2018 on my mom’s birthday because of aneurysm. He was also diabetic. Months after knowing the difficulty of the expense of someone in dialysis or who is sick we started #SendTitaMommys where we bring packed meals to dialysis patients weekly. Then the pandemic happened, from dialysis patients we extended to frontliners then from there we met sponsors who pledged drums of lugaw weekly. This our way of remembering my father and extending help to others in our own simple way,” Jonathan says. (bravo! pero wait, pwede ba ako tumikim ng lugaw mong yan bro?!)
