Robredo on CamSur governor candidacy for daughter: ‘One at a time’

A new plot twist is shaping in the run-up to the May 2022 polls, with Vice President Leni Robredo’s supporters training their sights on her eldest daughter to run for Camarines Sur governor.

Social media posts by Robredo supporters suggested Jessica Marie, or Aika, should be vying for the gubernatorial post so her mother could focus on her presidential bid.

“VP Leni Gerona Robredo for president. Aika for (Camarines Sur) governor,” Richard Arce, who hails from Naga City, wrote.

“Aika Robredo..Please run for governor in Camarines Sur. We support you 100
percent. We need new and decent young politician like you,” Rudz Dee Madrigal said.

“Naga City needs you, but the country needs you more,” another supporter said, referring to the elder Robredo.

They were commenting in a Facebook post by the vice president who shared a Manila Bulletin article about her eldest daughter carving her own path in public service.

The lady official responded: “Dai puwede (It can’t be). One at a time lang (only). As of now, running is not an option for her.”

Calls for VP Leni to run for the country’s highest top post continues to snowball, but she has dodged questions about her political plans next year.

Meanwhile, Aika is working as executive director of the Restart Micro-Enterprise Inc. after finishing a Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Restart is a non-government organization which helps people in disaster-prone areas get back on their feet through livelihood opportunities.

In her previous statements, the vice president has repeatedly said her children have no intention of entering politics. Her other daughters are Tricia and Jillian.

Besides, the Robredos have a general rule that only one person in the family will be in public office.
