Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia reminded candidates that poll campaigning is prohibited on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

"Absolutely no campaigning on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. It is the law. No exception," Garcia said in a Viber message.
Comelec prohibits campaigning on April 17, 2025 (Maundy Thursday) and April 18, 2025 (Good Friday) in accordance with Republic Act No. 7166
In an interview on Wednesday, April 16, Comelec spokesman Atty. John Rex Laudiangco also made the same appeal not to incorporate campaigning into religious activities.
"Tatlong batas po ang nagsasabing bawal mangamppanya ng Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, dagdag na rin po natin yung the day before the elections, May 11, at yung the day of the elections (There are three laws that prohibit campaigning on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and we should also include the day before the elections, May 11, as well as the day of the elections itself)," he said.
He is referring to Republic Act No. 7166, the Fair Elections Act, and Republic Act 7166.
"Anong mangyayari kung nilabag niyo po ito? Kasong kriminal po ito. Yung sinasabi ko kanina, pagkakakulong ng isa hanggang 6 na taon, pagkatanggal ng karapatang bumoto at perpetual disqualification to hold public office (What happens if you violate this? It’s a criminal offense. As I mentioned earlier, the penalty is imprisonment of one to six years, removal of the right to vote, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office)," he added.
This is aside from a petition for disqualification that may be filed against the candidate.
