Busted transporter: HPG cops seize over P100-M worth of shabu in Catbalogan City

What started as a regular anti-carnapping checkpoint ended up with operatives of the Highway Patrol Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-HPG) confiscating around P102 million worth of shabu in Catbalogan City in Samar on Wednesday, April 16.
PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said his men were conducting an operation along the Barangay New Mahayag part of the Maharlika Highway at around noon on Tuesday when they flagged down a white sports utility vehicle over broken fog light.
But while the operatives were checking on the car documents, they reportedly spotted the shabu inside the car.
Matta said the illegal drugs weighed 15 kilos with a street value of around P102 million.
HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang said the 41-year old arrested suspect is now detained and is now the subject of a background check.
Based on the initial investigation, the suspect was possibly tasked to transport the illegal drugs.
“We are conducting an investigation to determine the source of the illegal drugs, as well as to identify the destination,” said Malang.
Malang said appropriate criminal charges are now being readied against the arrested suspect.
