The crisis brought by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic did not shake the moral foundation of a Coast Guard personnel who returned P53,000 worth of Japanese Yen which he found while on duty at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Thursday.
The PCG personnel who returned the money is still an apprentice seaman identifed as Jefferson Cayabo.
Cayabo said the money ¥115,000, was inside a wallet owned by a tourist from Narita, Japan.
Cayabo immediately turned over the wallet to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) lost and found to return the wallet to the owner who is currently in a quarantine facility in Metro Manila.
The PCG lauded Cayabo on his inspirational act.
“May your loyalty to others, regardless of their nationality, inspire service members,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.
