‘Para sa kain.’
Good music, unlimited food, and great company—these are some of the things we miss from attending live events. These days, we do our cheers for newly weds, debutants, and other celebrators online. Though virtual meet-ups provide a safe space for us to get-together, we still can help but miss the good old days when we enjoy the ambiance and the buffet.
It looks many have been having this feeling, including Filipina singer Sitti Navarro. Through a post on social media, the bossa nova diva shared a funny encounter she had with a social media follower about her hit “Para Sa Akin.”
According to a YouTube commenter, the song is typically played when the guests are lining up to get their food from the buffet.
“An IG follower sent me this,” Sitti posted. “Nakakatawa haha pero oo nakaka-miss na talaga mga events. Nakaka-miss na um-attend at kumanta sa mga kasal at ang pinaka-inaabangan naman talaga lagi ay ang pagkain!! (It’s so funny! But, yes, I really miss doing events. I miss attending and singing on weddings and, of course, the food!!).”
The song was part of Sitti’s 2006 album Café Bossa, and was written by Emil Pama. The bossa nova song has been a favorite among Filipino social events thanks to its beats that help keep party guests in a good mood, even while standing in a long line for their food.
“Thank you, Cha Carriedo for sending this screencap to me. To Ron Ron (a Youtube commenter), see you at your wedding! Kakanta ako promise, at sagot ko na rin ang cordon bleu! Promise, 'di siya titipirin LOL." Sitti said. "Nais ko pong magpasalamat sa lahat ng lights and sounds suppliers for playing my songs in their events, at sa lahat ng wedding singers who include my songs in their repertoire. Dahil sa inyo talaga kaya na-equate ang mga kanta ko sa chicken cordon bleu at lumpiang shanghai.”
Miss going to live gatherings, too? Listen to Sitti’s “Para Sa Akin” and relive the glory days of buffets.
