Bren Esports crashed to the lower bracket of M2 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship after suffering a shocking 2-0 sweep to Myanmar’s Burmese Ghouls on Friday at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore.

With highly disruptive drafts featuring Hilda and Diggie, BG dealt a harsh reality check to Bren, which was looking to be the early favorite to hoist the trophy and claim the $140,000 (more than P6.7 million) lion’s share of the $300,000 (more than P14.4 million) prize pool.

The MPL Philippines champion was poised to win it all after sweeping the group stage highlighted by a 2-0 redemption victory against Indonesian powerhouse Alter Ego Esports.

Bren will look to put up a lower bracket run starting on a Saturday match versus MPL Malaysia-Singapore titlist Todak, which took down rival EVOS SG, 2-0, in the lower bracket first round.

BG battered Bren black and blue in Game 1 with its Hilda shattering the jungle rotation of Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s Claude while allowing its Yi Sun-shin to farm freely.

The MPL Myanmar champs did not waste their early lead and coasted to a 22-5 rout in 12 minutes behind YSS and Yu Zhong.

BG went for a surprise Diggie last pick in Game 2 and fully maximized its disruptive potential along with Yu Zhong and Selena.

Bren was able to put up a better fight this time with CJ “Ribo” Ribo’s Wanwan taking charge but the Burmese team proved to better in team fights to take an 18-11 win in 16 minutes.

BG could face MPL PH runner-up Smart Omega should the latter prevail over MPL Indonesia winner RRQ Hoshi in the other upper bracket match.
