CHED, JAO Group call reps of UST, NU to meeting on Sept. 1

Officials from the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) Group and Commission on Higher Education expect representatives from the University of Santo Tomas and National University in their Sept. 1 meeting involving issues of alleged breach of health protocols.

In a statement, the JAO Group and CHED hope that the two universities have already resolved the matter and took final action by that time after alleged training practices were held amid restrictions.

CHED chairman Prospero De Vera III said their agency, which supervises tertiary education in the country, had issued several advisories since March telling students to stay home.

“Safety of our students is the topmost concern,” said CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III, adding that it mirrors the guidelines issues by the Inter-Agency Task Force and the tri-agency-issued JAO.

In Wednesday’s meeting, UAAP Executive Director Rebo Saguisag and UAAP Season 82 President Nonong Calanog said UST is now finalizing their internal investigation.

They expect to receive the final report before their meeting on Friday.

UST has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter "that may run contrary to government regulations", the UAAP said in a statement released late Wednesday.

"The fact-finding committee is wrapping up their investigation and will be forwarding the result to the Rector's office tomorrow (Thursday)," the statement read, adding that a member of the committee will be asked to submit the report and attend the meeting with the JAO Group and CHED.
