Buy a cookie, support a child's education

The Hayag initiative aims to help underprivileged youth secure tablets to continue their education.

If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, support local businesses, and give back to underprivileged youth struggling to deal with the transition to online education, you need not look any further. Project Lila, the latest fundraiser of the Hayag Initiative, is the ultimate, feel good, triple threat.

Over 20 small businesses, mainly home bakers, have partnered with the Hayag Initiative. They will all be donating a portion of their proceeds to help Phil-Asia Assistance Foundation Inc. (PAAFI) scholars secure tablets approved by the Department of Education (DepEd).

“With the unfolding of the Covid-19 pandemic and the country entering into lockdown, we saw that certain communities required increased assistance to cope and survive the rapid economic and societal changes brought on by the pandemic,” the Hayag team shares with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “As students ourselves, we understand the importance of education and its unprecedented role in contributing to a child’s quality of life. Hence, we believe that no student should be left behind.”

As a group, they reached out to small local businesses they already knew. Other businesses heard of the project and expressed an interest in joining the initiative. Below, we round up all the delectable treats you ought to check out. From Aug. 16 to 30, they are all donating a portion of their proceeds to the Hayag Initiative.
