OEd, the country’s first institution to offer full online degree programs and a member of AMA Education System, launched a blockchain-powered way for its graduates to conveniently access their diplomas and transcript of records from anywhere in the world.
Announced during its 4th Commencement Exercises held virtually in late October, all diplomas issued by OEd will now be equipped with Diplosafe, a QR-code supplied by Edufied, a Singapore-based blockchain company that provides a secured and decentralized system for various certifying institutions. Through this QR code, students and potential employers can easily scan it to view, verify, and get a certified copy of diplomas and transcript of records which are part usual requirements for employment.
This development is part of OEd’s continuous goal of innovating education, in the same way it pioneered full-online degree programs in the country.
“We have always stressed the need for agile educational solutions at OEd. With Diplosafe, we eliminate the traditional barriers presented by collecting physical diplomas and school records and give them easy access to these from anywhere in the world. At a time like this when the world is battling a pandemic, everything related to education should be accessible and flexible to ensure learning and professional continuity,” said Dr. Amable C. Aguiluz IX, Vice-Chairman and CEO of AMA Education System.
The launch of its diploma technology coincided with OEd’s first ever full-virtual graduation, which allowed 162 graduates from 18 countries, ranging from Senior High to Master’s Degree Programs the chance to celebrate their academic achievements from the safety of their homes. Done via Zoom, the ceremony was also livestreamed via Facebook Live and Youtube through OEd’s assets to give the families of students the chance to join in on the celebration.
Aside from staging its first full-online graduation, OEd also had the unique opportunity to unite graduates across different time zones at one event. Aside from the Philippines, OEd also had graduates from the following countries: Kenya, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Russia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Mariana Islands, Australia, and USA.
