The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has tapped the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Navy in their search for missing lawyer Ryan Oliva.

“We have also engaged the services of our counterparts, ‘yung Philippine Coast Guard and Navy divers to scour the area,” NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said.
Despite this, Lavin said the NBI Special Action Unit which is leading the search remains optimistic that they can find him alive.
“Sana ma-recover namin o ma-rescue namin si Atty. Ryan Oliva (We still hope to recover or rescue Oliva),” he said.
“Kung hindi na, then recovery sana nung kanyang katawan (If not, then we hope we can still find his remains),” he added.
Aside from the NBI-SAU, the NBI spokesman said the NBI offices in Batangas and Mimaropa (Region 4-B) have also been tapped in the search for the lawyer.
Lavin had earlier said Oliva’s family has turned over his mobile phone for forensic examination.
Oliva’s mobile phone was among his personal belongings found inside his backpack recovered in Looc, Occidental Mindoro last Nov. 27.
A construction worker found the backpack on the beach and had turned it over to police.
Aside from the mobile phone, the backpack also had the missing lawyer’s Automated Teller Machine card, credit card, and identification cards.
NBI investigators discovered that Oliva, who heads the Legislative Liaison Unit (LLU) of the Department of Tourism (DoT) and a law professor of the University of the Philippines (UP), was last seen in a resort in Nasugbu, Batangas last Nov. 22.
