Department of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has expressed sadness over the death of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) official Raoul Manguerra.

“The DOJ and the NBI have suffered another major loss,” Guevarra said Wednesday, Dec. 9, over the death of NBI Counter Terrorism Division (CTD) Chief Raoul Manguerra.
“Chief Manguera was the head of the anti-terrorist division of the NBI that was responsible for the arrest of scores of Abu Sayaf fighters throughout the country, including in Metro Manila,” the secretary cited.
NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said that the NBI is also mourning over the death of Manguera.
“The NBI is in a deep state of mourning,” the NBI spokesperson said.
“We condole with the family, relatives and friends of Chief Manguerra,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lavin said NBI Officer-In-Charge Director Eric Distor has ordered “a thorough investigation into the incident including a lockdown on the NBI premises immediately after the incident.”
Manguera, 49, died after having sustained a gunshot wound in the abdomen.
Police said that his driver and a casual employee of the NBI heard a gunshot inside Manguera’s office at 11:39 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7.
When they saw Manguera with the gunshot wound, they rushed the NBI official to the nearby Manila Doctor’s Hospital but was pronounced dead at around 12:02 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Manguera’s live-in partner, Atty. Maria Rosario Bernardo, has revealed to police that he has been suffering from stage 3 colon cancer.
