The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Palawan Chapter on Tuesday, Nov. 17, urged authorities to bring to justice those behind the killing of a lawyer in Palawan.
“The perpetrators must be swiftly brought into the hands of the law by those in authority,” IBP Palawan said in a statement.
It issued the statement in response to the killing of Atty. Eric Jay Magcamit in Palawan on Tuesday morning.
IBP Palawan said it “denounces and condemns in the strongest terms” the killing of the lawyer.
“It is our consistent stand that violence has no place in this civilized society, especially against those in the legal profession who are courageously helping in the administration of justice,” it said.
“This tragic incident is not only an attack to a member of the IBP but also an attack to the legal order and justice system by means of fear and violence,” it added.
Meanwhile, IBP Palawan said it condoles with the family of the victim over “this challenging moment they are facing now.”
“We honor the life and memories of our brother through his great contribution not only in the IBP but to the society as well,” IBP Palawan stated.
“His senseless death is a great loss to the community he had perseveringly served since his admission to the bar, and most especially to us, his brethren in the legal profession,” it added.
