'Pisay' changes admission process for new applicants

The Philippine Science High School (Pisay) announced that it is changing its admission process for new applicants for the school year 2021-2022.

Instead of the traditional National Competitive Examination (NCE), the research-based public school will use the Requirement for Admission, Criteria, and Evaluation (RACE) as the new admission process for interested applicants.

Applications submitted online and to any Pisay campus or the Department of Science and Technology office will be evaluated in two stages.

The first stage is to determine the applicant's predicted NCE Grade (PNG). The PNG is based on the applicant's final grades in science and math in grade 5.

Instead of a physical exam, a written essay will be required to the top PNG scorers who will proceed to stage 2.

The combined PNG, points from academic ranking, and score in the essay of the top scorers will be ranked from highest to lowest. The top 240 applicants will be automatically considered as Principal Qualifiers of Pisay main campus in Diliman, Quezon City.

Meanwhile, the top 90 or 120, depending on the Pisay campus' quota, are the principal qualifiers of the regional campuses.

The Ateneo de Manila University and the University of Santo Tomas earlier waived their respective college entrance exams for new applicants for the academic year 2021-2022.
