Alex Eala bucked a slow start before besting Natalia Szabanin of Hungary, 6-4, 6-1, in the opening round of the French Open Juniors Championships on Sunday (early Monday in Manila).
The second-seeded Eala crawled back from a 4-0 deficit to take the first set before match was interrupted due to rain.
Despite almost an hour of delay, Eala still maintained her momentum and dominated Szabanin to rule the match in 70 minutes.
Eala next faces the winner between wildcard bet Sarah Iliev of France and Mara Guth of Germany.
