JBC set to interview 7 bets for SC post to be vacated by retiring Justice Reyes
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is set to interview this month seven candidates vying for a seat at the Supreme Court (SC).

SC Clerk of Court and JBC Ex Officio Secretary Edgar Aricheta has issued a notice on Friday, Aug. 7, announcing the names of those to undergo the online interview via Zoom as: Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Oscar Herrera Jr., and Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justices Ramons Cruz, Eduardo Peralta Jr., Nina Antonio-Valenzuela, Jhosep Lopez, and Maria Filomena Singh.
Marquez, Cruz, Peralta, and Valenzuela will be interviewed online by the JBC on Aug. 19.
The rest will be interviewed Aug. 26.
“The public may submit a sworn complaint, report, or opposition against any of the aforesaid candidates by electronic mail to [email protected] and [email protected],” Aricheta advised.
President Duterte will make his choice from the shortlist that will be submitted by the JBC following the interviews.
The candidate to be selected by the President will fill the seat that will be vacated upon the compulsory retirement of SC Associate Justice Jose Reyes Jr. on his 70th birthday on September 18.
Reyes was appointed by President Duterte as SC magistrate on August 9, 2018.
Prior to his appointment to the SC, Reyes served as justice of the CA since 2003.
Reyes, who is a graduate in AB Political Science and Bachelor of Laws in San Beda College, had also been a trial court judge in Pasig and San Mateo, Rizal.
