Guimaras prov'l gov't to help repatriate Filipina killed in Beirut explosion

ILOILO CITY – The provincial government of the island province of Guimaras will help bring back the remains of one of the two Filipinos killed by the massive explosion in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

“We are deeply pained to hear that the recent explosion in Beirut killed a fellow Guimarasnon,” said Governor Samuel Gumarin Friday, August 7.

Gumarin identified the fatality as Milagros Sumaculob, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who hailed from the town of Buenavista.

“While we stand in solidarity with the world in this difficult time and grief, the provincial government will be right behind the bereaved family,” Gumarin assured.

“We will provide the family all the needed coordination and assistance in this heartbreaking situation,” Gumarin added.

The 65-year-old was scheduled to go home this December as she was going to retire from her work and be reunited with her family.

“She was supposed to go back home for good in December this year will be home a few months early but not with a smile anymore,” Gumarin said.
