OSG closes during MECQ

The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) has decided to close its offices in Makati City while Metro Manila is under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The OSG announced on Monday, Aug. 3, that “the OSG premises will be closed from August 4 to 18, 2020 and will be unable to receive documents during this time.”

The decision was made following President Duterte’s announcement that the National Capital Region (NCR) and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will be reverted to MECQ starting August 4.

“In compliance with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s declaration of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) over NCR, the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) is implementing a work from home arrangement for the majority of its employees during the period of the MECQ,” the OSG said in a statement.

“Only a skeleton force composed of employees from the Financial Management Service (FMS) and the sanitation and disinfection team will physically report in the office,” it added.

The OSG also advised the public to send documents through e-mail.

In declaring the MECQ, President Duterte heeded the appeal of the medical community to return Mega Manila back to ECQ due to the rising number of cases of persons with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The President explained that he could not impose stricter quarantine measures due to the need to restart the economy.
