A high-ranking official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has tested positive for COVID-19, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra confirmed Thursday.
“He is in quarantine now,” said Guevarra of the official, whom he declined to identify.
The NBI official, who is asymptomatic, has been in self-quarantine in his home since July 15 after confirmatory Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test showed that he is positive for COVID-19.
In April, a high-ranking NBI official tested positive for COVID-19 and was hospitalized. He has recovered.
The Justice Secretary trusts the NBI management in containing and stopping the spread of the virus in its offices.
“They have already taken the necessary precautions including a temporary shutdown, contact tracing, and self-quarantines,” Guevarra said.
The NBI headquarters in Manila has been placed on lockdown from July 22 to 26 for disinfection and sanitation against COVID-19.
