The event aims to foster interaction among the youth on leadership, empowerment and youth-oriented advocacies.
The Cebuano Youth Ambassadors, Inc. (CYA) organized the campout in partnership with the Junior Chamber International (JCI)-Mandaue and various youth organizations in Cebu.
CYA founder and Chairperson Paolo Martin Saberon said the activity is the second initiative of the organization. The first was the CYA Summit in 2017 attended by more than 300 youth leaders.
Saberon said one of the major objectives of the Barkada Campout is to impress on the participants their role in fulfilling the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We want to create a youth network with a shared agenda to support the delivery of SDGs in Cebu, and to document, declare, and disseminate the aspirations of Cebuano youth to local levels as recommendation for incorporations with local development policies,” he said.
Nicholas Tura, University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJR) student council president who attended the campout told Manila Bulletin he joined the campout “to build connections with different student leaders in Cebu.”
