The Philippine National Police (PNP) appears to be keeping its promise for a cautious conduct of the anti-drugs operations with only five deaths reported a month after it resumed its operations against illegal drugs.
Based on the PNP data, the PNP has already conducted 708 anti-drugs operations across the country from December 5 last year to January 4 this year.

The PNP data showed that a total of 1,096 suspected drug pushers and users were arrested while five were killed.
Since the PNP led the war on drugs in July 2016, almost 4,000 drug personalities were allegedly killed—all of them reportedly in the process of fighting the operatives.
PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa had vowed for a more cautious conduct of anti-drugs operations when the police were allowed to rejoin the war on drugs.
The PNP was kicked out of the war on drugs in October last year amid the controversies brought by the deaths of minors in Caloocan City in the conduct of police operations.
A few weeks later, President Duterte ordered the return of the PNP.
In the same PNP data, the resumption of the drug war also resulted in the death of a policeman and the wounding of another.
